Antes de tirar o curso de joalharia comecei por aprender wire wrapping. Fiquei fascinada com as possibilidades a nível de design que eram possíveis apenas com fio metálico e alguns alicates mas também reparei nas suas limitações e foi isso que me levou a procurar formação em joalharia.
Pensei que os conhecimentos de joalharia se fossem sobrepor e substituir o meu interesse pelo wire wrapping mas muitos anos depois reparei que isso não ocorreu.
Muito pelo contrário aquilo que comecei a sentir como o meu estilo é precisamente a junção das duas coisas naquilo a que alguns chamam um estilo “híbrido”. Basicamente começo com uma base soldada e uma cravação em virola tradicional e depois acrescento elementos de wire weaving e coiling, trabalhados em arame, que vão dar textura e decoração à peça.

Hybrid Jewellery – joining soldering and wire wrapping techniques
Before studying as a jeweller I started out by making wire wrapped jewellery. I was fascinated by the design possibilities that could be achieved with the simple use of some wires a coupe of pliers. I was also aware of it’s limitations, which is why I decided to take my studies further.
I was convinced that learning how to solder and set stones would take over from my interest in wire work but that didn’t happen. In fact, I began to feel that my style would develop from merging the two into hybrid pieces. I start out with a soldered frame and traditional stone setting and then add wire weaving and layering to add texture and decoration to the pieces.
